Expression Analysis, a genetic sequencing and analysis company, was recently purchased by Quintiles, an transnational pharmaceutical research company. EA had developed a collection of Perl programs and modules to support everything from data file management to the scientific analysis of those files, to the web interface that displays the results of that analysis. We also have a custom-built job scheduling/queuing system written in Perl that drives our analysis pipelines. In addition, many of the third-party software packages that we use for various analysis tasks are written in Perl. Come and hear about the different ways we have used it for problem-solving, and the ways we plan to use it in our new role as a Quintiles subsidiary.
